Japanese Encephalitis Vaccination
Protection against Japanese Encephalitis virus, transmitted by mosquitoes in rural Asia.
About This Service
Japanese Encephalitis is a viral brain infection transmitted by mosquitoes, found primarily in rural agricultural areas of Asia and the Western Pacific. While most infections are mild or without symptoms, the disease can cause severe brain inflammation (encephalitis) with a mortality rate of up to 30% in severe cases.
The vaccine is recommended if you're spending extended time (usually a month or more) in rural areas during the transmission season, especially if you'll be near rice fields or pig farms. It's also advised for shorter trips if you'll be doing extensive outdoor activities in rural or agricultural areas. The primary course consists of two doses, given 28 days apart.
